Reading some of the comments has made me want to contribute here as well. Lots of people are annoyed and outraged at the outdated ideas about weight, but as someone who grew up during the 70s, I can attest that IT WAS THIS WAY. People were OBSESSED with dieting and it became a big business. It's also a time when eating disorders first became known to the general public. Also, a few things about this movie..it is NOT a Lifetime or cable movie. This was shown on actual network TV, on ABC. I remember watching it first run and enjoying it very much. I loved Patty Duke's defiance against the shallow people around her, her sarcasm and humor. She lost weight for herself and learned about herself in the process. Conchatta Farrell was fantastic. The movie is really satire, a black comedy and a huge jab at the ridiculous obsession with weight and the shame people put on you.

i am 64 , i am always reminded of how i looked at 25. i really hate menopause, middle age. working long hours. No time for myself, even 15 min would help. i used to days without eating or just an apple. now. I am eating better, taking vitamins and supplements, i am back on Golo. it worked a year ago. it has to work now. it just has too. :(

Is there any kind of update on how things turned out for Jesse. I think the grandparents should've been able to raise him. The Youngs had too many kids and there was no way to give each child, especially with special needs, the proper attention. They said they didn't hire any help either. They have their biological kids plus 12 adopted children. I guess the biological kids ended up having to take care of the adopted kids. It is never right to split up twins either. At least if the grandparents raised him he could see his brother without feeling bad that his parents kept him and gave the other away because he had down syndrome.
